What this is

This article will show you how to record your client's Housing Move-in Date (HMID) within the program enrollment workflow in HMIS.

The following project types are required to record an HMID (Housing Move-in Date) for the Head of Household only, on the date the client moves into housing

  • Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH)
  • PH – Housing Only
  • PH – Housing with Services
  • Rapid Re-Housing (RRH)

What is Housing Move-In Date?

The Housing Move-In Date is simply the date your client or household moves into your permanent housing project. Sometimes this will be the same date as the Project Start Date, sometimes it will not.

If you are completing the enrollment after the client has already moved into housing, you can add the Housing Move-in Date while completing the enrollment. However, If you are completing an enrollment prior to the client moving into housing, you will need to go back and update the Housing Move in Date once the client has moved in. To do this, check out Updating Housing Move in Date after an enrollment.

Clients who are receiving pre-housing services through a Permanent Housing project, but who ultimately do not move-in, should be exited from the PH project without a Housing Move-In Date to the appropriate destination. In other words, leave the Housing Move-In Date blank.

Recording a correct Housing Move-In Date is vital to accurately reporting point-in-time (PIT) and housing inventory counts (HIC). This data element helps us distinguish between households who have already moved into Permanent Housing from households who are enrolled in (or "accepted into") a Permanent Housing project, but who are still homeless as they prepare to move into an available unit.
