How can my agency join Minnesota's HMIS?

Whether your agency is brand new to HMIS or returning to the system after an absence, this article explains how to show interest in participating in HMIS and what to expect in the onboarding process.

Only when HMIS setup is finished can staff from your agency register for HMIS user training. User training is a requirement for anyone who will be accessing the database.
What happens if my organization is denied?
If ICA determines that your organization may not join HMIS, your organization can request an appeal.
How long does approval take?
Joining HMIS is a process that typically takes 4-6 weeks. and a conversation with ICA, the HMIS Lead, and your Continuum of Care leadership. Once an agency has been approved to participate in HMIS and has completed the required paperwork, it may be several weeks before the system has been fully configured for data entry and reporting.
Who uses HMIS?
Regardless of funding source, entities who may use HMIS include:
- Coordinated Entry Assessors and Priority List Managers
- Day Shelters and Drop-In Centers for persons who are homeless
- Emergency Shelters serving homeless adults, families, and youth
- Transitional Housing programs
- Rapid Re-housing programs
- Supportive Housing programs (whether scattered site or on-site)
- Street and Community Outreach programs to persons who are homeless
- Supportive Service programs serving persons who are homeless
- Permanent Supportive Housing programs
