Unexpected Session Timeout or Report Failure

The Problem
Attempting to run or open a report may result in an error. The chance of these errors increases while a warehouse build is underway.

Observed issues include the following:

  • Opening a report in View mode produces an error.
  • Opening a report from the Instances folder or BI Inbox produces an error.
  • Scheduled reports that have not finished running fail to complete.
  • Reports cannot be scheduled: Clicking on the "Schedule" button has no effect.
  • Scheduling a report takes you to a loading screen that never goes away.
  • The BusinessObjects session expires (or "times out") unexpectedly.
  • Reports opened in Edit mode cannot be saved.

You may see one of these popup messages when you experience a build-related error:

The Solution
Take note of when the warehouse builds occur and try to avoid running or opening reports during those times. If you experience one of the issues described above, follow these steps to restore full access to BusinessObjects:

  1. Close all open BusinessObjects web browser tabs.
  2. Open a new BusinessObjects web browser tab from HMIS.
  3. Resume running reports.

Required Prompts Can Be Skipped (Scheduling Only)

The Problem
It is possible for you to click on "Schedule" and start running a report without first completing required prompts. Skipping required prompts in this way may produce incomplete report results.

The Solution
Select "Edit Prompt Values" and complete all necessary prompts before clicking on "Schedule".

Prompts Popup Loads Slowly or Not At All (Scheduling Only)

The Problem
From the moment that you select "Schedule" on the Folders screen, you have five minutes to make your selections on the Schedule screen and click the "Schedule" button. This time constraint extends to the prompts popup that appears when you click on "Edit Prompt Values". More complex reports may not display the prompts popup within the five minute time limit, making it impossible to schedule them.

The Solution
Depending on how often the report needs to be run, there are two options:

  1. If the report needs to be run once or occasionally, run it in View mode. (It is possible that this option will not be viable for REALLY big reports.)
  2. If the report needs to be run daily or weekly, contact the Helpdesk at mnhmis@icalliances.org for assistance. ICA will need to manually resave the report and help you select the proper dates for the recurring report runs.

"Send to BI Inbox" Feature Does Not Work (View Mode Only)

The Problem
Selecting the option "Send to BI Inbox..." will produce a warning that directs you to contact your system administrator.

The Solution
At this time, there is no identified fix for this problem. If you need a copy of a report sent to your BI Inbox, your can choose to schedule it instead of opening it in View mode.

Report Search Feature Does Not Work

The Problem
Using the search feature - accessed by selecting the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen - will produce incomplete results or no results at all. You may also find that BusinessObjects slows down while a search is being performed.

The Solution
Unfortunately, the HMIS software vendor (WellSky) has been unable to provide a solution to resolve this problem. ICA recommends that you do not attempt to use the search feature.

Reports Cannot Be Added to the Home Page Dashboard

The Problem
Previously, you had the capability to add Advanced Reporting Tool (ART) reports to your Home Page Dashboard. This functionality is not currently available for BusinessObjects reports.

The Solution
Unfortunately, the HMIS software vendor (WellSky) has been unable to provide a solution to resolve this problem.

Stuck on Loading Screen

The Problem
A loading indicator appears in the middle of the screen and stays there, preventing you from moving on to your next task.

The Solution

  1. Close all open BusinessObjects web browser tabs.
  2. Open a new BusinessObjects web browser tab from HMIS.
  3. Check whether the task you were working on when the loading indicator appeared has completed.

Browser Language Settings Can Cause Report Prompt Errors

The Problem

After fully filling out report prompts the scheduled report returns either #ERROR on one or more prompts and/or “flip flops” dates entered. It looks like this when filling out the prompts:

Note the 00:00:00 format

Example of what this error looks like on the completed report:

Note the “flip flop” effective date and #ERROR End Date

The Solution

Confirm the browser you are using is set to English (United States) for language. English (United Kingdom) will cause prompt issues in BusinessObjects due to a difference in the date format.  In Chrome this is under Settings >> Advanced >> Languages

If you prefer to work in a browser set to a language other than English (United States) or use a translator plugin, designate a different browser set to English (United States) to use when scheduling BusinessObjects reports.

Cannot Send Instances to Other Recipients (Scheduling Only)

The Problem
Previously, the Advanced Reporting Tool (ART) allowed you to send a report to another user's inbox. This functionality is not currently available for BusinessObjects reports.

The Solution
Unfortunately, the HMIS software vendor (WellSky) has been unable to provide a solution to resolve this problem.

Switching Between Accounts Produces a Server Error (Shadow Mode)

The Problem
Opening BusinessObjects after entering or exiting shadow mode will produce an internal server error.

The Solution

  1. Close all open BusinessObjects web browser tabs.
  2. Open a new BusinessObjects web browser tab from HMIS.
