What this is

This article walks you through how to create a Coordinated Entry housing referral.

What you need to know

As a Priority List manager you should run the Priority List report, determine which client will receive the referral, then create the CE Event directly from the By Name List.

How to refer a client to housing

  1. On the Client Dashboard under Enrollments and Services, click on CE Event.
  2. Click on Add New to create a new event.

  1. Complete the CE Event fields
    1. Date of Event: This is the referral’s issue date.
    2. Event Type: Choose the housing referral event type
    3. Provider: This is the provider issuing the referral. Your CoC’s Coordinated Entry provider will appear automatically, so not need to change this field.
    4. Enrollment: Select the client’s Coordinated Entry enrollment
    5. Location of Crisis Housing or Permanent Housing Referral: Select the housing program the client is being referred to. If the program does not appear, double-check the Event Type; if that value is correct, contact the Helpdesk for assistance at mnhmis@icalliances.org
    6. Refer to Provider: Search for the housing program’s provider. The provider will be named after the program’s organization (e.g. Catholic Charities Twin Cities, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota)
    7. Complete the housing provider contact information
  2. Do not update any additional fields, as they will be completed by the housing program. Click on Save to log the CE Event.

When you are done

When you are done, the housing program will have the referral available on the incoming referral data checker for their project, but you should still contact them separately to make sure they are aware.

These instructions are specifically for Priority List Managers. If you represent a housing program and you need a referral to fill an opening, you must reach out to your local PLM directly via email or phone.
